“Escape Hatch” by Maxine Kollar

I cut a hole for you to climb through
It’s not clean or cauterized
But it will do if you need to leave
Never mind the jagged bits that will still bleed
Just hold the edges and push through
There must be something better out there
That is not painful or empty or needy

Maxine is a wife and a mother of three. Her works have appeared in SpeckLit, Gravel Mag, Gambling the Aisle, Rat’s Ass Review, Clever Mag, Mamalode, Funny in Five Hundred, and elsewhere.
